Shirley Swapinski

Shirley Marie (McGath) Swapinski, of Duluth, died Saturday, Dec. 26 ^th at Miller Dwan.  Shirley was born Aug. 17, 1936 in Duluth to Howard and Mae McGath.  She graduated from Duluth East High School.  She met Leonard “Len” Swapinski and they were married in April of 1958.  She worked as a bookkeeper at Austin Florist, American Linen and retired from Advanstar Publishing. Co.  Shirley was a member of Hope United Methodist Church; she enjoyed sports, she played softball, volleyball, bowling, golf and cross-country skiing.  Shirley enjoyed spending the summer in her trailer at Lake Minnesuing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Mae; brother, Jerry McGath; husband, Len in 1984 and her daughter, Barbara in 2010.

Shirley is survived by her son, Lenny Swapinski; grandsons, Derek and Jordan Swapinski; great grandson, Clyde; siblings, LeRoy (Connie) McGath, Doug (Karen) McGath, Sandy Williams and Suzanne (William) Ostman and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  She will be greatly missed.
