Alice Julia Cossalter, 85, went to rest on Monday, Jan. 9, 2012 peacefully surrounded by family and friends in Essential Health St. Marys in Duluth. She was born on March 22, 1926 in Eveleth, Minn., to William and Anna Sainio. She was a graduate of Eveleth High School and the Duluth Business School. She married the love of her life Sisto Mickey Cossalter on June 30, 1946 in Eveleth, Minn. They moved to Duluth in the early 1950s and were in the restaurant business for many years. Alice was a member of The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, Blessed Nuno Society, and Lioness Club, and the 10 Buck Club. She was a Real Estate agent for Coldwell Banker East West Reality. She volunteered at the Damiano Center, Housing Access Center and Miller Dwan. She spent many years visiting nursing homes. She took on everyones problems as her own and prayed for them daily. We will miss her pizzas, pasties, pizzelles, patisa and cookies! Alice was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Vienna Hobrle and Emily Ely, brother Rueban Sainio and husband Mickey on Sept. 7, 2004. She is survived by her sister Patricia Jackson of Englewood, Ill; her brothers Herbert (Elizabeth) Sainio of Del Ray Beach, Fla.. and Arthur Sainio of El Sabrante, Calif.; her foster daughter Charlotte Connely of Dodge Center, Minn.; good friends Sandra (Joe) Santomassimo and Judy (Max) Max; and many nieces and nephews. We will miss her loving kindness, generosity, prayers, and her love of life. Thank you to all her many friends that helped her through the years and also the staff and nurses at Lakeshore and Essential Health and her doctors. VISITATION: 10 a.m. Friday until the 11 a.m. funeral service in Dougherty Funeral Home. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
