Alice Irene (Scott) Jappe, age 99, of Duluth, died peacefully Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at the Franciscan Health Center. Born to Fredrick and Alice (Shean) Scott, Alice was a lifelong Duluth resident growing up in West Duluth and attending St. James parish and school and graduating from Denfeld High School in 1937. Jappe on April 10, 1944 and spent the early war years following her husband to various army bases. She found herself in New York City on VE Day and walked the six miles between Battery Park and Times Square in heels. Alice raised her three daughters while working at St. Louis County Social Services, from which she retired. Alice was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church where she served on the funeral committee and volunteered at the Used-A-Bit thrift store. When her children were young, she was a girl scout leader. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and especially summers at Lake Eshquagama.
