Alice Elisabelle (Carlson) Sjoding died Thursday, June 21, 2012, in Golden Oaks Assisted Living.^^She was born in Omaha, Neb., May 16, 1915, to Carl Wendell and Mabel (Meleen) Carlson. She worked as a private secretary for Nebraska Power Co. Alice married J. Donald Sjoding MD in 1943.^^She was a P.E.O. member, a member of various garden clubs, a lifelong Lutheran and a former member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Grand Marais, Lutsen Lutheran Church and Grace Lutheran Church in Mankato, Minn.^^Alice had a passion for gardening and identifying wildflowers and birds. She was an active community volunteer all of her adult life.^^She was preceded in death by her brothers, Marlin and Chester Carlson; and a sister Irene Carlson.^^Alice is survived by her husband of 69 years, J. Donald Sjoding MD; son Carl (Patricia) Sjoding; daughters Donna (Stan) Amidon of Minneapolis and Carol (Scott) Custead of Johnstown, Pa.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.^^The family would like to thank Golden Oaks for their compassionate care of Alice.^^In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor's choice.^^VISITATION: 12 noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service Tuesday, June 26, in Dougherty Funeral Home.
