Allan Rudolph “Murphy” Helstrom, 97, of Duluth, died on Monday April 30, 2018 in Benedictine Health Center. He was born in Duluth on August 21, 1920 to Carl and Olga Helstrom. Allan was a WWII Army Veteran and Bronze Star recipient. He was an owner operator of Murphy’s 76 for over 60 years. Allan was a member of the Duluth Elks Lodge, and past-president of the Good Times Square Dancing Club. He was a big UMD Bulldog Hockey fan, he enjoyed camping and fishing on the Northshore, and he loved his family. Allan’s family wishes to thank the staff at Westwood, Marywood, BHC, St. Luke’s Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
Allan was preceded in death by his parents, wife Emerine, son Tom, sister Gertrude, and a brother Roland.
Allan is survived by his children Carole (Steve) Johnson of Denver, CO, Donna (Duane) Peterson, and Larry (Margie) Helstrom all of Duluth, 5 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday May 4, 2018 from 10AM until the 11AM Memorial Service in Dougherty Funeral Home. 600 E. 2nd St. Duluth, MN 55805. Military Honors will be accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard. 218-727-3555.
