Allen Charles Willman (86) of Duluth died peacefully Friday, January 10, 2014 at St. Luke's hospital.
Allen was born in Duluth on July 7, 1927 to John and Ollie Willman, After attending Denfeld High School, Allen went on to enlist in the US Navy in 1945, serving over seas during WWII. Allen continued his military career by joining the US Army in 1953, earning the Army of Occupation Metal, and the National Defense Service Metal. Upon serving his country he met and married the love of his life Janice on, October 14, 1959, and started their journey together.
Allen was a life long teacher, including many years in Duluth Public Schools after graduating with a master's degree in education from University of Minnesota Duluth.
Allen was an active member of the Duluth community, he was proud to serve in many organizations including but not limited to, MOAA (Military Officers Association of America), Alpine Ski Club, UMD Extension Program, UMD Alumni Association, UMD Foundation, Supported the Duluth Police K9 Unit, and Animal Allies. Allen took great pride in being a resident of Duluth, and believed in helping and serving others on a daily basis.
Allen was a member of the Elsing Chapel of Ecuman Lakeshore, and a past member of Christ Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by, His loving wife Janice; parents; and brother, Robert.
Allen is survived by, his daughters, Ann (Hemant) Trehan, Woodbury, MN, and Christine Archambeault, Proctor; and grandson Seth Archambeault; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at the Dougherty Funeral Home, visitation will continue Thursday at 10 AM until the start of the service at 11AM.
