Alvera Thorson Shatto

July 5, 1938 — August 8, 2016

Alvera Janet Thorson Shatto, 78, of Duluth, died on Monday August 8, 2016 and went to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born in Duluth on July 5, 1938 to Erik and Florence Thorson. Alvera was a seamstress and sewer, working in the sewing industry for 48 years. She had worked in Minneapolis at numerous sewing factories, Garon Knitting Mills, Duluth Tent & Awning, and Aero Stich. Alvera loved to knit and crochet for family and friends, she also donated handmade mittens to Stowe Elementary School and to the Salvation Army every fall. She was a very caring, loving and giving person who was always there for her family and friends in times of need, sending cards to friends and family in times of sickness and sympathy. Alvera was well liked by family, friends and coworkers. She will be sadly missed by her family and all who knew her.

Alvera was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 54 years John J., brother Herbert Thorson, sister Therese Holmberg, son Steven J. Shatto, and grandchildren Sarah Helen Shatto, and John James Shatto.

Alvera is survived by her special friend Jerry Krokos of Duluth, sons John D. (Milli) Shatto and Erik Thorson both of Duluth, Terry Lee Shatto Sr. of Milltown, WI, and Mark S. Shatto Sr. of Duluth, brothers John Thorson of New Jersey and Edward (Mary Anne) Thorson of Wyoming, sister Arlene (Roger) Halvorson of Hermantown, 15 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Monday August 15, 2016 from Noon until the 1PM funeral service in Dougherty Funeral Home. 600 E. 2nd Street, Duluth, MN 55805. 218-727-3555. Burial will be in Parkhill Cemetery.
