Alverna Haltli-Hansen, 94, of Edgewood Vista passed away peacefully on April 16, 2024. She was born in Opole, Minnesota in 1929 and moved to Duluth in 1939. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent and Emma Czech; husbands, Marvin Haltli and Ralph Hansen; sister, Delphine Hansen, and granddaughter, Molly Kruger. She was a lifelong active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Duluth Heights. Alverna started working as a teenager at Gustafson’s Bakery where she mastered cake decorating, which led her into catering weddings. She was also a cook at the YMCA for many years.
Her hobbies included crafts of all kinds. She also loved sewing, gardening, playing cards, dancing, and roller skating. Her famous caramel rolls will never be forgotten.
She is survived by son, Jim (Bev) Haltli of Duluth; 4 daughters, Kathy (Marty) Garrick of Forsyth, MO, Diane (Larry) Norman of Duluth, MN, Cindy (Mark) Grindahl of Pine River, MN, and Michele (Mark) Haltli of Cromwell, MN; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
