Amanda Kortuem

Amanda Christine (Royer) Kortuem, 28, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012 in Prior Lake, MN.


Amanda will be fondly remembered by family as "little david", "Swedish pimple" and "Boo Boo". She was born during a deep freeze at the end of January 1984, warming our hearts with her adorable looks and beautiful smile.


Though her life could be filled with physical struggle and excruciating pain, she amazed us all with her artistic talent and amazing creativity through pen, paint, but especially through the lens of her camera.


Amanda attended Lincoln Park Elementary, Denfeld High School, Lake Superior College and U.W.-Superior. She was employed at the Postal Encoding Center for 3 years in Duluth and over 7 years as a 911 dispatcher for Douglas County. While working as a dispatcher she was recognized in the Superior Telegram for helping to deliver a new life into this world.


Amanda enjoyed rock climbing and was a member of the Duluth Photographer's Guild. She loved the symphony and being a world traveler. She visited Australia, South America, South Korea and Europe, her favorite destination was Rome which she was able to visit twice in her short life.


She was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Dolores Royer and John J. Royer; maternal grandfather, Leon Stowe and her uncle, John E. Royer.


She is survived by her best friend and sister, April Royer and her children, Jesiah and Alexcia; her "big" sister, Rachael (Carl) Strohm and their children, Jeremiah, Aleah, Joelle, Lily and Spencer; her parents, David and Sharon Royer; maternal grandmother, Lorraine Stowe; Andrew Kortuem; numerous aunts, uncles and friends; her beloved kitty's Bubba and Selena. She will be deeply missed by everyone whose life she touched.


A benefit account has been established to defray expenses with US Bank; Amanda (Royer) Kortuem Benefit Account; c/o US Bank, 130 W. Superior Street, Duluth, MN 55802.


A Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012 in the Dougherty Funeral Home Chapel. The celebration of Amanda's life will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012 in Dougherty Funeral Home Chapel, 600 E. 2nd St. Interment will be in Oneota Cemetery.
