Arlene Gales

August 1, 1934 — July 5, 2014

Arlene Frances Gales, 79, of Duluth, MN, passed away on Jul 5, at St Luke's Hospital, after fighting a long and courageous battle.
Arlene was born on August 1, 1934, in Duluth Minnesota, to Robert J. and Emma G. Huston.
She grew up in West Duluth, and graduated from Denfeld High School in 1952. Following graduation, she attended Nurses Training in Duluth for one year. Arlene worked for many years at Curtis Oil, until her retirement in 1975. She married the "love of her life", Francis Gregory Gales, on June 17, 1967; they enjoyed 20 years of marriage until his death in 1987. Arlene loved to fish, camp, cook, play cards and bowl; she also enjoyed her many years as a member of the "Sewing Club". The Minnesota Twins were her favorite pastime; she knew every statistic but perhaps the one she knew best was how "cute" each player was. She was an active member of St Raphael's Catholic Church in Pike Lake for nearly 50 years. Arlene always found time to help others, always had a smile on her face, and had a great sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her husband Francis, her parents, and her brother Bobby Huston.
Arlene is survived by her children Diane Anderson, Rob (Susan) Gales, and Dave (Jody) Gales, as well as grandchildren Jennifer (Mykal), Jeremy, Nathan (Beth), Christopher (Jenny), Erin, Amanda, Matthew, Samantha, Michael, Jonathan, Haley; great-grandchildren Patrick and Kaylee; sister Marian Arras and brother Dennis (Joan) Huston; many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr Kurt Kamper, as well as St Luke's Hospice and Two West for their loving and compassionate care of Arlene. Also a special thanks to the staff of Ecumen Lakeshore as well as the many friends she made over the years there.
Visitation will be Monday July 14th from 5-7pm in the Dougherty Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 10am to the 11am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Raphael's Church, 5779 Seville Rd., Pike Lake. Memorials are preferred and may be directed to St Luke's Hospice, 1000 East 1st St. Duluth, MN 55805. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E 2nd St. Duluth, (218) 727-3555.
