Arlo “Bob” Pfahl, 89 of Esko, died Tuesday, February 6, 2018 in his home, with his family by his side.Bob was born July 18, 1928 in Butte, North Dakota to Christlieb and Emma Pfahl. He graduated from Glenwood High School, Glenwood, MN and enlisted in the Navy serving on the U.S.S. Kidd during the Korean War. He went on to attend North Dakota State University NDSU. He met the love of his life, MaryAnn Brouns and married on September 7, 1957.He retired from management with the MN Department of Agriculture Grain Inspection after 39 years of service. In addition, Arlo had a real entrepreneurial spirit, as he ventured into many small businesses over the years. Bob was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Carlton and the VFW. He enjoyed history, genealogy, fishing, and volunteering at local games as well as donating for years to the Red Cross. He nurtured friendships having coffee at Highway Host (Duluth Grill). Bob was unfailingly supportive and especially devoted to his family.He was preceded in death by his parents, Christlieb and Emma; siblings Jim, Walter, Laverne, Roger, Vivian, Patricia, an infant brother, his son Michael James, his wife MaryAnn, and infant granddaughter, Ana Christina. Bob is survived by his children, Kathryn (Mark) Vogel, Patrick (Sue McClernon), Jacqueline (David) McClernon, Mary (Mike) Link, Joseph (Carla), Christopher (Katie) and Sarah Pfahl; 26 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday, February 16 from 5-7pm with Wake Prayers at 6:30 PM in the Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E 2 nd St. Duluth, MN. Visitation will continue Saturday the 17th from 12 noon to the 1pm Mass of Christian Burial at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, 2801 E 4 th St. Duluth. Followed by military honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard. Memorials are preferred and may be directed to, "Legion of Christ” the missionary order of grandson Br.
