Audrey Juntunen

Audrey Lois Juntunen, age 84, of Hermantown, died Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center. Audrey was born December 30, 1928 in Saint Paul, MN. to Rolf and Georgianna (Trojan) Christensen. She attended Gustavus Adolphus College and began nursing school where she met Roy Juntunen. They were married in 1949 and began their long and happy marriage. Audrey was opinionated, assertive, charming and witty. She was improbably young-looking even into old age. Audrey was an avid golfer, tennis player, Viking fan and shopper. She was also active in numerous organizations. Audrey was vibrant for most of her life, but a fall last summer proved too much for her to fully recover. For the past year, her husband, daughter, son, and wonderful friend, Tom Mellin, attended to Audrey. Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, and her wonderful son, Jay, on Aug. 23, 2008. There is little doubt that Jay is regaling his mother with jokes as you read this. In fact, it seems probable that she walked right past St. Peter because she was in such a hurry to see Jay. You see, Audrey Juntunen was a woman who would not be slowed down. Audrey is survived by her husband, Dr. Roy Juntunen of Hermantown; daughter Deborah (Craig) Amundson, and son Christopher Juntunen, both of Duluth; grandchildren Anders (Ingela) Amundson, and their son, George, of Brooklyn Heights, NY, Timothy Amundson of Minneapolis, Tom Juntunen of San Francisco, CA., Kristen Juntunen and Ted Juntunen, both of San Mateo, CA.; sister MaryAnn Lenz of White Bear Lake, MN.; brother Anthony Larson of Wyoming, MN; and many nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law.
Friends may gather on Friday, March 15, 2013, from 10 AM until the 11 AM memorial service at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1108 E. 8th. St. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to the Boy Scouts of America or Trinity Lutheran Church.
