Barbara Jane Gustad

Barbara Jane Gustad (Haberkorn) passed away unexpectedly on March 5, 2024. 

She was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota on February 20, 1935. She was a 1953 graduate of St. Paul Central High School, where she met Paul Alan Gustad, her husband of more than 66 years. Barb graduated from Hamline University School of Nursing in 1956 and worked as a Registered Nurse, starting her career at Midway Hospital. After living in Saint Paul, Rochester and Sauk Centre, Barb and her family settled in Duluth where she was an R.N. at Park Point Manor until she retired.

Barb loved spending time at their cabin on Burntside Lake, traveling with her family and attending the symphony. In addition to Barb’s family and friends, she will be missed by every dog in the Lakeside neighborhood, each of whom knew Barb was at the ready with treats and warm wishes when they passed by. 

Barb is survived by her husband Paul, her daughter Susan Elizabeth Gustad and son John-Paul Gustad, son-in-law John Westerman, granddaughter Charlotte Jane Westerman, and daughter-in-law Kristina Ray Gustad. Of note are Barb’s all too spoiled grand-puppies Josie and Geysir, Ollie and Clarque.

Please join us for a celebration of Barb’s life on April 6, 2024, beginning at 4:30 p.m., at Glensheen Mansion in Duluth, Minnesota. We will start with a ceremony of love and remembrance in the Winter Garden Room and then gather in the Amusement Room, where we can all remember this amazingly beautiful woman together.
