Barbara Porter, 86, of Duluth died Friday, January 3rd 2014 at St. Luke's after a short illness. She was born October 15, 1927 in Omaha, Nebraska. The only child of Horace Boies and Ida (Dusatko) Turk. She was educated in Omaha and graduated from Omaha Central High School in 1945. She continued her studies at the University of Nebraska, joined Kappa Gamma, met Sanford Porter, and proceeded to have a wonderful time. She graduated in 1949 and that same year she married Sanford Porter.
The couple moved to Duluth in 1958, and as folks will if raised on the prairies, proceeded to buy a home on Lake Superior. They lived there for 47 years.
She was a former member of St. Edward's Episcopal Church, The Duluth Junior League, Northland Country Club, and a member of the Ginger Bread House board.
She worked as social director at Northland Country Club, and as a travel agent for Korkki-Thomson Travel Agency.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Barb is survived by her husband, Sanford; son, Charles of Minneapolis, MN; son, Christopher and his wife, Linda of Duluth and her daughter, Sally of Bucerias, Mexico; two grandsons, Timothy and Matthew Porter; and beloved dog Simon
Visitation will be Thursday, January 9th starting at 11am with services at 11:30am at the Kitchi Gammi Club, 831 E Superior St. Duluth, MN 55802. Memorials may be directed to the Duluth Public Library, 520 W Superior St. Duluth, MN 55802 or Animal Allies, 4006 Airport Rd, Duluth, MN 55811, both very dear to Barb.
