Bernice L. Kochevar, age 96, a long-time resident of the Lester Park neighborhood in Duluth, died at home on November 30, 2022. She was born to John and Ida Larson in Virginia, MN on January 1, 1926, and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Virginia in 1944. Bernice married her husband, Edward, in November 1946. They settled in Duluth, where she briefly worked at “the transit office,” but became a homemaker and loving mother to her four children, Cheryl of Duluth, Barbara of Edina, MN, Suzanne of Spokane, WA and Edward Jr. of Maple Grove, MN, who survive her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward, her parents and her brother and sisters. Bernice loved baking, shopping for the sales and bargains, knitting, word games, and picking wild berries at the family cabin on Rose Lake. She never met a berry patch she didn’t like. She was extraordinarily successful at growing African violets and had a love of greenhouse shopping in the spring with her children.
Funeral services for Bernice will be at in a private ceremony including a family prayer service and visitation at the Dougherty Funeral Home in Duluth on Wednesday, December 7, 2022.
