Bertram Peter Minwegen 95, of Duluth, joined his beloved wife Adeline Ohr Minwegen in eternity on July 30, 2017. Bert and Adeline settled in Duluth in 1950 after teaching out west during the 1940’s, where Bert ran for a Senate seat in Idaho in 1948. He taught at Duluth Central High School and at Duluth East High School. Bert also worked with Midland Cooperatives and was the force behind rebuilding the Bayfield Inn during the 1960’s. Bert and Adeline also built three beautiful homes in Duluth.
Bert was committed to the principal every person has the right and duty to be an active citizen of our democracy. He set the example by participating in community projects, DFL politics, the University for Seniors, and the United Nations Association. He inspired his family and generations of students to ask the question, “How can I best serve?” He served as well and with all his heart, and will be missed.
He is loved and missed by all his family, who turned to him for advice and wisdom in times of need and will forever be guided by his example.
Bert was preceded in death by brother Mark Minwegen.
Bert is survived by daughter Mara Minwegen, granddaughter Katherine Minwegen, sister-in-law Elaine Minwegen, nieces Mary Murphy and Rita Stanton and nephews Michael and Tony Minwegen.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday August 2, 2017 from 10AM until the 11AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. John’s Catholic Church. 4230 St. John’s Ave., Duluth, MN 55803. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home. 600 E. 2nd Street, Duluth, MN 55805. 218-727-3555.
