Beverly Cecilia Barry Power passed away Oct. 6, 2017, in Duluth.
Born Feb. 19, 1927, in Grand Coteau, La., Bev was born to Franko and Tootsie (Sibille) Barry. She was the fifth of eight children.
In high school, Bev graduated at the top of her class and went on to study biology at LSU. After college, she headed a medical technology lab in New Orleans and met her husband, Dr. John Power Jr. Together, they raised four children, John E. III, Theresa, Pamela and Barry.
Bev was the "Nonna" of seven grandchildren Thomas, Matteo, Misa, Elly, Nick, Gavin and Ryan and two great grandchildren Telos and Luca. She knit them all sweaters, spoiled them with cookies and kept them on their toes at cards.
She'lll be remembered for her sharp wit, gentle wisdom and her cajun cooking (especially her gumbo). She was the backbone of the Power family.
There will be a visitation for Bev from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, in the Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. Second St. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, in the Cathedral of our Lady of the Rosary, 2801 E. Fourth St. Burial at Calvary Cemetery to follow.
