Bonnie Marie Kaniewski Laurion died peacefully in her sleep on July 4, 2023 in Proctor, Minnesota, after a long illness.
Her childhood was spent in the Hessville neighborhood of Hammond, Indiana, followed by adulthood in Chesterton, Indiana. She moved to Duluth, Minnesota to marry Dennis Laurion, also from Hessville. Bonnie attended St. Catherine of Sienna Elementary School and Oliver P. Morton High School, both in Hammond, Indiana.
Bonnie was employed as a beautician, a Montessori teaching assistant, a daycare provider, an employee of Von Tobel’s Local Building Material Supplier & Design Center, Sherwin Williams Paint, Franciscan Nursing Home, and Inn On The Lake. She did all of the artwork for her husband’s business, Linkin Mall Shirts.
Bonnie’s domain was her home. She loved caring for her family. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, decorating and family gatherings. She was an ardent holiday celebrant. She enjoyed welcoming neighborhood latchkey kids and having her picture taken with other people. Her hobbies included reading, collecting coins, doing puzzles, playing board games, playing with her children, restoring furniture, arts and crafts, and assembling Pandora bracelets and necklaces. She gave them to anyone who admired them. At Christmas, she gave one to each female employee at her favorite restaurant, while her husband Dennis gave each male employee a necktie.
Bonnie had two sons, Kevin Johnson and Keith Johnson. She enjoyed playing with her boys - constructing forts, making mazes, and buying them toys that facilitated learning. She had four stepchildren - Damon Laurion, Jake Laurion, Sarah Laurion, and Margret Laurion. She enjoyed teaching Sarah and Margret Laurion to cook.
Bonnie was an excellent wife, mother, neighbor, friend, employee, and driver. Bonnie was a member of Liberty Bible Church, a congregation of Evangelical Free denomination. On her last day of life, she slept peacefully, attended by her sons and daughters and family friends.
Bonnie is survived by her husband Dennis Laurion; her sons Kevin Johnson (Saswati) Damon Laurion, and Keith Johnson (Elyse); her daughters Sarah Laurion Dickson (Chris), and Margret Laurion Harmon (William); her sister Judy Phillips, her sister Susie Johnson, and her brother Ken Kaniewski; and several grandchildren and cousins.
A celebration of her life was held at The Other Place Restaurant in Rice Lake, Minnesota. She will be interred at Calvary Cemetery in Rice Lake, Minnesota.
