Bonnie Mae (Schneider) Lund, 80, passed away peacefully at Ecumen Lakeshore on April 14, 2014 surrounded by family.
Bonnie was born in Duluth on June 21, 1933 to Robert and Myrtle (Youngren) Schneider. She lost her mother at a young age and her father later married Julia Magnuson, who Bonnie knew as her mother for most of her life.
She attended St. Anthony's grade school, graduated from Cathedral High School and worked as a switchboard operator for the phone company. Bonnie married Jack Lund in 1953 and they started their young family in Duluth, moving to the new town of Silver Bay after the birth of their second child. Bonnie and Jack were inseparable and had many happy years in Silver Bay raising their four children and enjoying time with friends.
Bonnie had a strong Catholic faith that was instilled upon her at a young age. She was an involved member of the St. Agatha circle at St. Mary's church in Silver Bay, and later at St. Benedict's church in Duluth and its Women's Faith in Motion group. Bonnie enjoyed shopping, golfing, volleyball, sunbathing, cross country skiing, traveling in their RV, painting, crafting, and in later years bocce ball and water aerobics. She was a homemaker in her Silver Bay years and had an eye for fashion, a gift she later employed in her business as a "Color Me Beautiful" consultant, advising customers on the best clothing colors for their skin tones. She was an excellent seamstress with a passion for sewing.
Bonnie and Jack later moved to Sun City West, AZ where Jack took up a second career as a travel consultant, and Bonnie worked as a receptionist for Del Webb. She retired and moved back to Duluth after Jack passed away and renewed old friendships.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, in-laws Reidar and Fern Lund, her husband Jack, brother Jim Schneider, sister Delores Shutak, and son-in-law Jim Cone.
Bonnie is survived by her children, Susan (Archie) Manning of Silver Bay, John (Kathy) Lund of Cloquet, Mark (Brenda) Lund of Duluth and Rob (Stacy) Lund of Champlin; her grandchildren, Holly (Paul) Hartzell of Brooklyn Park, James (Alison) Cone of Bovey, Shanna (Mike) Dahle of Little Marais, Rob (Belen) Cone of St. Louis Park, Jessica (Eric) Lund-Denn of Burnsville, Kelsey Lund of Minneapolis, Becky (Justin) Lehto of Esko, Dan (Becky) LaPlante of Duluth, Arnie (Courtney) LaPlante of Hermantown, Abby Lund and Maddie Lund of Minneapolis; her sister Betty Lou (Syl) Yagoda of Duluth, her brother Greg (Charlene) of Jefferson City, MO, sister-in-law Norine Schneider of Scottsdale, AZ, sister in law Joan (Dave) Halstead of Duluth, nine great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation: Monday April 21st. from 10 am until the 11 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, 1419 St. Benedict Drive, Duluth. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, Duluth, 218-727-3555.
