Carl Roger Nelson

Age 70 of Proctor, Carly to his family and friends, and one of God’s special children, was called home on the 28^th of October at his residence in Proctor; surrounded by his good friends and the caring staff of Duluth Regional Care Center.  Carl was born in Duluth, Minnesota on the 20^th of April, 1953 to Carl H. Nelson of Duluth and Helen E. (Peterson) of Shaw.  Carl will be remembered by his big smile and sense of humor, his love of the Minnesota Vikings, music, word puzzle books, jigsaw puzzles, and the enjoyment of a pickle for a snack.  Carl was a client of the Saint Louis County Social Services Department, and the United Developmental Achievement Center for many years (working in their mailroom); for which the family wish to recognize the care and effort that they have extended to Carl’s well being over the decades.  Carl loved his family and was loved in return, enjoyed being a track runner in the Special Olympics (winning several ribbons and medals), bowling, dancing, eating out (always had room for seconds or desert), and his TV shows.  Carl was preceded in death by his father and mother, his older brother Daniel, and younger sister Christine.  He is survived by his big Sister Audrey and brother-in-law George Hudson (Ironwood, Michigan), older brother Dwight Nelson (Duluth), and younger brother Barry Nelson (Ironwood, Michigan), his nephews and nieces, and many cousins.  His battles with life are over and he no longer feels any pain.  The family would like to thank all the staff at D.R.C.C. and the Hospice staff that looked after him; for the wonderful care Carl was given during these last hard years of his life during his physical downward spiral.  Thank you also to the staff at Dougherty Funeral Home that assisted us in showing the dignity and respect that Carl deserved.  A Celebration of Life will be held for Carl in the D.R.C.C. Boardroom (5629 Grand Avenue, Duluth) on Wednesday November 29, from 4 to 6 PM.
