Carmen Orman

Carmen A. Orman, 88, of Pike Lake died Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the Benedictine Health Center surrounded by her family and the wonderful BHC staff. Carmen was born Sept. 30, 1923 in Chisholm, Minn., to Thomas and Angeline (Colalillo) Amendola. Angeline died when Carmen was two and her dad then married Nellie Fracchin and together they raised Carmen and her brothers and sisters. She attended Duluth Central High School and graduated from the Duluth Beauty School in 1941. Carmen developed a love of education, and later in life she earned many credits from University of Minnesota, Duluth and St. Paul, with nothing but straight As. After beauty school, Carmen moved to Brainerd, Minn., and met the love of her life, Ed Orman. They were married on Oct. 12, 1942 while Eddie was home on leave while serving in the Army. Ed and Carmen relocated often because of Eds work. They lived in Brainerd, Winnipeg, Edina and finally to Duluth in 1963, all the time, Carmen worked as a beautician, right up to 2005. Carmen was a member of the former St. Peters church; she enjoyed politics, having ran for the St. Louis Co. Board; she was a Canosia Twp Supervisor since 1981, where she was instrumental in getting millions of dollars in loans and grants for many projects including the sewer system at Pike Lake. She was honored by having the public access road at Pike Lake named Carmens Way. Her life was based on service to others, her love of family and she was forceful in making sure that everyone knew how important the relationships in family were. She always stayed in contact with her family in Italy and throughout the United States. Carmen and Eddie had wonderful times with their neighbors and enjoyed many pontoon rides around Pike Lake on Carmens Barge. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas, Angeline and Nellie; brothers, Frank Amendola Sr. and Eddie Lanaro; sisters, Mary Dollie Michelizzi and Dorothy Jeanetta and her husband Ed in 2009. Carmen is survived by her son, Michael (Anne) and their children, Angela (Chris) Stocke, Michael Thomas and James (JoHannah); son, Tony (Mary Sam) and their children, David Matthew (Melanie Bonney), Christopher (Megan) and Elizabeth Marie (Michael) Erickson; great grandchildren, Colin, Henrick and Leighton Stocke, Sophia and Georgia Orman and Lily and Audrey Orman and Gino and Carmella Erickson; sisters, Susan Pevestorf, Jeanne Hanson; brother, Thomas Amendola Jr.; many nieces, nephews and many wonderful neighbors and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Charlie Bertel, Dr. Mark Boyce, Special caregiver, Jennifer Nemmers and the Exceptional staff at the BHC for their loving care of Carmen. VISITATION: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday with Wake Prayers at 6:30 p.m. in the Dougherty Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Thursday from 10 a.m. to the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Raphaels Church, 5779 Seville Rd. Pike Lake. Burial will be at Canosia Cemetery.
