Carol Metz

Carol Kay Metz passed away March 14, 2016 in Duluth, MN. Born August 24, 1942 in Eureka, SD, to Jacob and Gertrud Becker, Carol graduated from Leola High School and attended Jamestown College, ND, and South Dakota State University in Brookings. She was a great reader and collector of books. Gifted with a beautiful voice, music and creativity were driving forces in her life. She worked several years with the world-renowned Children's Theatre Company in Minneapolis. Later she engaged in several entrepreneurial enterprises, being ahead of her time in understanding digital communication and where it would lead. Besides living in Minneapolis, Carol lived briefly in Florida and in Duluth for several years. In 1993 she moved to Anaconda, MT to be closer to her parents, where she was actively involved in community events and historical preservation. As her disabilities required greater management, she moved back to Duluth and lived at the Franciscan Health Center.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents and her two close friends, Hiram Titus and Patty Dunn. She is survived by three brothers, Stephen (Janet) of Hot Springs, SD; Terrence (Jean) of Duluth, MN; Randall of Mazomainie, WI; and seven nephews and one niece. She also leaves behind dear friends in many places.

The family wishes to thank the Essentia staff and especially Carol's Franciscan family for their constant and compassionate care. A celebration of life and remembrance will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Franciscan Health Center.
