Carol Shykes

Carol Ann Shykes, 76 of Hermantown died Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Miller Dwan with her family by her side. Carol was born September 6, 1937 in Duluth to Samuel and Beatrice Malzac. She graduated from St. Jean’s School, where she met Phil Shykes and they were married in 1956. Carol and Phil owned and operated Miller Mall Auto Parts for 40 years. She was a member of St. Raphael’s Church, Elks and the Hill Top Lionel’s. She enjoyed BINGO, dining out and most of all spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Samuel; step father, Phil Patnaude; brother Samuel "Chum" Shykes; and her husband, Phil in 1995.
Carol is survived by her sons, Jim (Karen) Shykes of Hermantown and Tim (Pam) Shykes of Hinckley; her mother, Beatrice (Leonard “Willie”) Mortensen; grandchildren, Ryan (Deena), Myles, Chelsey, Lindsey and Megan; great grandchildren, Aveyah and Hadley; close friends, Peg Williams and Joan Anderson; and many neices and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7pm in the Dougherty Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Thursday from 10am to the 11am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Raphael’s Church, 5779 Seville Rd.
