Cary Edward Wegerson, Duluth, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on Aug. 3, 2019 with his family by his side, loved to the end. Cary was born Oct. 21, 1958 in Chicago Heights, IL, to Edward and Eileen (Weishaar) Wegerson and they moved to Duluth in 1967. He graduated from Duluth East in 1976 and was a Criminology Major at UMD. Cary was a long-time employee of the Pickwick, serving as a bartender and bar manager. He sold wine throughout the Northland, primarily for Johnson Brothers, becoming an expert in national and international wines. Cary was active in his community with involvement with the Duluth Police Auxiliary and the Knights of Columbus. He attended the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary and Vineyards Church. A loving husband to Joyce, role model to Derek and Blake, and generous to all with his time and many talents. His quiet strength, extreme good nature, unquestioned integrity and loving bear hugs will be greatly missed by all who knew, admired, and loved Cary.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Eileen, and his nephew Paul Wegerson.
Cary is survived by his bride of 25 years, Joyce (Lamberton/Donahue) Wegerson; loving father to Derek (Mariana Pedisic) Donahue and Blake (Sarah Curtis) Donahue; amazing Papa to granddaughters Haylee and Lexie; and by siblings, Pam (Peter) Postlewaite, Candace Wegerson, Ed (Mary) Wegerson, Kris (John Ipsen) Wegerson and Pat (Karen) Wegerson and 9 nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Cary’s life will be Saturday, Aug. 31 at the Owls Club, 118 E 2nd St. Duluth, MN from 2-5pm. We ask any and all to share kind words or precious memories of Cary at the celebration. A memorial mass will also be said at 8am on Oct. 13 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, 2801 E 4th St. Duluth.
