Cecilia Haugen

November 28, 1936 — January 28, 2021

Cecilia “Cil” (Leihulu) Kaauamo Haugen was born November 28, 1936 to Solomon and Cecilia Kaauamo in Hana, Maui Hawaii. Cil joined the army and was stationed in the mainland as a young woman. While serving she met a young GI Philip Haugen, they fell in love and soon after were happily married. Following their service to their Country they settled in Duluth and raised a family.

Have you ever had the pleasure of meeting someone who made you smile just by being in their presence? Then at a later moment in time the mere thought of that shared memory sparked joy? That describes Cil Haugen. She was incredibly pure of heart, she radiated peace and kindness. She was driven by a positive outlook that generously saw the best in everyone. Her smile and infectious laughter drew people to her, but it was her giving heart that left its indelible mark. Simply put, she was a beautiful person. She was loved by many family, friends and acquaintances who will miss her boundless joyful spirit.

Cil was a lifelong learner, she attended the college of St. Scholastica in her 50’s and graduated with a masters degree in social work. She was a long time member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Woodland and volunteered in nearly all capacities throughout the years. Her faith was her constant companion.

Cil was preceded in death by her loving husband Philip and dear son Jason (BJ), brothers; Michale Kaauamo, Kamaka Kaauamo, Ekela Kaauamo, Solomon (Kuulei) Kaauamo; sisters Maryann Shimatsu and Elizabeth Kapeka Azeka

Cil is survived by Her sons Gregory (Vonnie) Duluth, Alan (Arlene) Sisters, Oregon. Grandchildren; Philip, Joesph, Alena, Jessica, Rylee, and Dally and five great grandchildren. Also by brothers, Herman (Lynette) Kaauamo of Keanae, Maui, Radford Kaauamo of Keanae, Maui, Jimmy Kaauamo of Keanae, Maui; sisters, Christina Seto of Eleele, Kauai, Emily (Kamalana) Kalalau of Hana, Maui, Pauline Sinenci of Pukalani, Maui, Jeanette Kaauamo of Makawao, Maui and many nieces and nephews.

Thank you to the wonderful caregivers and friends at St. Ann’s residence of Duluth who helped spread Cil’s joy these last several years.
