Charlene "Char" Evelyn Kelly, 65 of Duluth passed away unexpectedly Monday at St. Luke's as result of a bicycle accident.
Char was born August 20, 1947 in Duluth to Earl and Evelyn (McGath) Gorder. She attended Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from Proctor High school in 1965, where she was voted "Most Congenial" of her class.
Char worked at Bromme's in Pike Lake, where she met the love of her life, Tom Kelly, whom she married on August 27, 1966. Char also worked at Gallagher's and Bridgeman's
Char enjoyed bowling, horseshoes, fishing and feeding deer. She was a member of the Duluth Area Bowling Assoc., The 600 Club and Duluth Horseshoe Assoc. In horseshoes, Char was city champ, 3rd in state and 16th in the world.
Char's most important job was being a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She made the best chocolate chip cookies and banana bread.
Char loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
Char is survived by her husband of 46 years, Thomas; her daughters, Tami (Dave) Patterson of Duluth and Jodi (John) Lorenz of Carlton; grandchildren, Rylea and Darby Patterson and Josef, Kelly and Thomas Lorenz; mother, Evelyn Lepley; father, Earl Gorder; brothers, Lee (Ida) Gorder and Al (Joanne) Gorder and many, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
A special thank you to the staff at St. Luke's Hospital for their loving care of Char after the accident.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7pm in the Dougherty Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Thursday from 10am to the 11am services at Forbes United Methodist Church, 33 Grove St. Proctor, MN. Burial will be at Canosia Cemetery, Pike Lake. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E 2nd St. Duluth. (218) 727-3555.
