Charlotte Leone Van Guilder, 91, of Duluth, died Saturday, March 2, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was born on May 10, 1927 in Duluth to Alwin and Amy Kuchta. She graduated from Duluth Central High School where she was a band majorette.
On October 29, 1945 she married Gerald “Bud” Van Guilder, and they celebrated 73 years of marriage together. She worked for many years as a cashier at Woodland Piggly Wiggly grocery store. She was a life-long member of Woodland Methodist Church and then Hope United Methodist Church after they merged. She was also a member of the Teamster Retirees Club where she served, along with Bud, as the travel coordinator. They planned over 250 trips across the United States for the club.
Charlotte was a woman of many talents and she loved to knit, sew, and garden. She was an accomplished woodworker and enjoyed building many things including birdhouses, playhouses, complete with furniture, fish houses, toy boxes, and taking on home improvement projects. She loved giving her homemade items to her family and friends. She also enjoyed relaxing in her greenhouse with a cup of coffee and watching the birds in her yard. She was active in many sports including bowling, golfing, fishing, and hunting, and she was an avid Twins fan.
She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren planning many activities for them over the years. She especially enjoyed taking them all to feed the ducks.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, brother Bill Kuchta and sister Betty Simpson. She is survived by her husband Gerald “Bud” Van Guilder, daughter Cyndy Rogers of Anchorage, AK, son Tim (Liz) Van Guilder and daughter Nancy (David) Werner, both of Duluth, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Timothy Kleinschmidt for his compassionate care over the years.
VISITATION: Saturday, March 9th. from 10 AM until the 11 AM MEMORIAL SERVICE at Hope United Methodist Church, 301 W. St. Marie St, Duluth. Inurnment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.
