Chris Markes

Chris H. Markes, age 76, of Duluth, died Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center. He was born March 18, 1937 in Eratini Doridos Fokida, Greece to Mike and Marie Markou, and immigrated to the United States at the age of 13 to live with his uncle and aunt, and his adoptive parents, Gus and Effie Markes. Chris married Jeanette B. Melander on March 12, 1960 in Duluth. He worked for Minnesota Power & Light, retiring in 1996 after 23 years of service. He was a member of Twelve Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church and Sam G. Solon Order of Ahepa # 267. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Steve Markou, in Greece; and his adoptive parents. Chris is survived by his wife Jeanette; his son Tino of Milwaukee, WI; his daughter Sheila Markes of Duluth; his brother Harry Markou, and sister Sheila Katsoulis, both in Greece; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, September 27, 2013 from 5-7pm with Trisagion prayers at 7pm at Dougherty Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 am Saturday at Twelve Holy Apostles Orthodox Church.
