Clare Chamberland

April 1, 1927 — September 16, 2019

PROUD TO HAVE BEEN A DULUTHIAN FOR 92 YEARS, Clare "Lorraine" Chamberland passed away peacefully September 16, 2019 with her loving family by her side.  Born on April 1, 1927 to Theodore and Clara Meyer, she graduated from Duluth Cathedral High School and, after graduation, became employed as a Registrar for St. Mary's Hospital. She married Alfred Joseph Chamberland on October 14, 1950.  Like many women, Lorraine spent much of her adult life raising her six children.  As they began to leave home, she became employed at New Horizons and retired from Glass Block (Younkers) in 1989.  Lorraine exhibited a strong Catholic faith and, along with her husband, provided her children with a sound Catholic upbringing and schooling.  Many family day trips were enjoyed at Pike Lake each summer and she lovingly prepared large picnic baskets of food for her family to enjoy.  She shared her love of plants and being outdoors with her family. She also enjoyed bowling, dancing, gardening, and had a keen eye for decorating and keeping her home and yard in impeccable order.  She enhanced her family's life with sewing, knitting and baking.  One of her well-loved recipes was her scrumptious strawberry rhubarb pie. Having been born and raised in Minnesota, she was an avid Twins fan. Her main love, however, was her children.  She was a member of St. Joseph's Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister, Funeral Committee Volunteer, Prayer Chain Leader and sang in the church choir. She also enjoyed volunteering her time at the Damiano Center.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, and her son, Thomas.  She is survived by daughters, Peggy (Gregory) Olson of Bozeman, MT; Clare (Ron) Baughman of Hendersonville, TN; Mary (Mark) Wiens of Cottage Grove, MN; Nancy (Michael) Naddy of Rosemount, MN and Carol (Rick) Kruse of Lawrence, KS; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Lorraine's family wishes to acknowledge, with special love and appreciation, the friendship of Joe Pasek, Joanie Bradley and Dolores Heine.  Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 21, St. Lawrence Church, 2410 Morris Thomas Rd, Piedmont Heights, with visitation one hour prior to Mass.  Interment at Calvary Cemetery.  Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, (218) 727-3555.
