Clarence James “Jim” Lindquist, 93, of Hermantown, has joined the Lord on Friday, June 2, 2017 in Essentia Health St Mary’s Medical Center, Duluth.
Jim was born on the 12th day of May, 1924 in Maywood, ILL to Clarence “Speed” and Doraliska Lindquist. He graduated from Morgan Park High School, attended Duluth Jr. College, the Salter Vocational School and many military schools. Before joining active Military, he was a member of the MN State Guard. Jim was in the Army for three years and came home as a combat and medic veteran of World War II. He was in the Army National Guard, then joined the Army Reserve. He retired from the Army after serving a total of 30 years, as a CW4.
He married Jeanne Lindstrom of Duluth in 1946.
Jim worked for the Railroad – Lake Superior Term and Transf, DM&IR, and retired from the Burlington Northern RR in 1985.
Jim married Kathleen Bakken of Solon Springs, WI in 1960.
Jim’s favorite place to spend free time was at his cabin at Murphy Lake near Cotton, MN. He enjoyed fishing, four wheeling and spending time with his grandchildren.
In his later years, when the Presidential Gold Coins came out, he bought and gave hundreds away as gifts to family and friends, also, as tips when eating out. He also gave candy to everybody he knew, plus to strangers. He made a point of knowing their favorite flavors.
He walked approximately a mile every morning to catch his ride to the Mall Food Court to join other friends for coffee and chat. Due to changing circumstances he was picked up by a friend and they went to Cub Food every Tues. and Super One on Wed. where he enjoyed coffee and chat with friends on the Deli. He was thrilled to be able to take the Honor Flight with his fellow Vets.
Jim was preceded in death by his daughter Tamara Rae Stumo in 2012, and his parents Clarence “Speed” and Doraliska Lindquist.
Jim is survived by his wife Kathleen, sons David (Leanna) of Portland, OR, Jeffrey (Julie) of Keewatin, MN, and Bradley (Sonia) Lindquist of Las Vegas, NV; eight grandchildren: Wendi, Michael, Jacob, Nicole, Joshua, Desiree, John, and Christina; one great-grandchild, Camden; three step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Thursday, June 8, 2017 from 9 AM until the 11 AM memorial service at Grace Lutheran Church, 5454 Miller Trunk Hwy, Hermantown.
