Claude Kosbab

October 30, 1925 — January 21, 2015

Claude Herman Kosbab, 89, of Duluth, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2015, at the Chris Jensen Health & Rehabilitation Center in Duluth.
Claude was born October 30, 1925, in St. Cloud, Minnesota, to Fred and Annie (Fischer) Kosbab. He married Susan Schroden Kosbab on June 3, 1947, and together they had three boys.
Claude owned and operated Claude's Shell DX Gas Station with his wife from 1956 until 1971. They moved in 1971 to Hackensack, Minnesota, where they owned and operated Red Oaks Resorts for 33 years, retiring in July, 2004. They moved to Duluth upon their retirement.
Claude loved the outdoors. His favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting and playing cards. He was featured August 8, 2010 in the Northland Outdoors section of the Duluth News Tribune. His expertise at bass fishing was highlighted. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren. Claude was a master of many trades.
Claude was preceded in death by his wife, Susan; his son, Michael; his parents; 2 brothers, Richard and Leo; 8 sister-in-laws, Annie Blissenbach, Clara Guggenberger, Marcella Schroden, Betty Dingman, Catherine Schroden, Lucille Salzer, Rosemary Schroden and Millie Kroll; and 7 brother-in-laws, Thomas Blissenbach, Claude Guggenberger, Frank Schroden, Andrew Dingman, Adolph Kirchner, Francis Salzer and Johnny Schroden.
Claude will be lovingly remembered by his 2 sons, David of Duluth and Peter (Patricia) of Monroe, Michigan; 3 sisters, Mary (Robert) Zwald of Hammond, Wisconsin, Arlene (Bert) Goebel of Visalia, California, and Patricia (Richard) Floyd of Fountain Hill, Arizona; 2 brother-in-laws, Albert Schroden and Edward Krohl, both of St. Cloud, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Martha Kirchner of St. Cloud, Minnesota; 6 grandchildren, Nicole (John) Malone, Ross (Emily), Brant (Miranda), Lindsey (Nathan) Roelant, Jodi Campbell, and Matthew Miller; and 6 great-grandchildren, Dylan, Molly, Brody, Aria, Roland and Anthony.
Visitation, concluding with the rosary, will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2015, at Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. Second St., Duluth, Minnesota. A Christian burial Mass will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, 2801 East 4th St., Duluth, Minnesota. With visitation one hour prior.
