Clifford “Cliff” Alton Eastvold, 92 of Hermantown, died Monday, October 23, 2017 in his home. Cliff was born April 30, 1925 in Rockwell Twp, five miles east of Borup, MN to Helmer and Mina Eastvold. He graduated from Borup High School and began farming with his father. He met Virginia June Morris and they were married on June 7, 1952. He was a good farmer, but was hailed out in the early 1950s and went to college at Concordia College and Moorhead State, earning a teaching degree in Industrial Arts. He began his teaching at Floodwood and retired from Hermantown Schools, teaching drafting and woodworking. He continued to substitute teach until his early 80’s.
Cliff was a very active member of St. John’s Free Lutheran Church; Gideon’s International and Teen Ministries.
As he had his summers free, Cliff and family spent summers between 1960 and 1965 at Lake Vermilion Bible Camp where Cliff took care of the infrastructure and served as life guard while Virginia was the camp nurse.
As part of Teen Ministries, Cliff and Virginia travelled each summer, with about 30 teens, throughout the world to help build churches and church related buildings in Venezuela, Colombia, Hawaii, The Philippines, Israel, Nepal, Germany, and Norway. Cliff and Virginia also took missions trips to Mexico and Ecuador for a number of years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Helmer and Mina and his brothers, John and Harold and his wife, Virginia in 2009.
Cliff is survived by his sons, Carl (JoAnne), Daniel (Vicki) and Tom (Liz); his daughter, Esther (Stuart) Walker; sisters, Mildred (Ray) Trochmann, Helen (Don) Mott and Harriet (Bill) Lewis; 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Cliff's life was bible driven. He lived by the word. His life might be summed up by this verse: " He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?" Micah 6:8
The family will be forever greatful to Tom and Liz Eastvold for their sacrificial love and care for dad these past eight years.
