Col. James Earl Frazier, 90, of Duluth, died Sunday January 20, 2019 in the Silver Bay Veteran’s Home. He was born at Fort Snelling on August 30, 1928 to Frederick and Violet Frazier. Jim joined the Marine Corps at the age of 16 during WWII, serving 5 years active duty and 35 years active reserves, including working at the Pentagon and being the commanding officer at the Marine Base on Park Point. He was a Boy Scout Master and gymnastics coach. Jim taught science for 35 years. Jim was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church, and the West Duluth American Legion Post #71. He volunteered with AARP helping with free income tax preparation for 10 years after he retired. It is a huge comfort to his family knowing that his strong faith in Jesus has brought him to his heavenly home. Jim’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Silver Bay Veteran’s Home for the kind and compassionate care he received during his time spent there.
Jim is survived by his wife Evelyn of 60 years, children Kevin (Sue) Frazier, Erin (George) Vanderport, Collin (Shannon) Frazier, and Leaslin Frazier, grandchildren Katie, Brian, Makenna and Karch.
Visitation will be held on Friday Feb. 1, 2019 from 5PM to 7PM in Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. 2nd St. Duluth, MN 55805. Visitation Continues on Saturday Feb. 2, 2019 from 10AM until the 11AM Funeral Service in Mount Olive Lutheran Church. 2012 E. Superior St. Duluth, MN 55812. Burial will be in the MN State Veteran’s Cemetery, Duluth, MN. Military Honors will be accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home. 218-727-3555.
