Daniel Shepard

Daniel Louis Shepard, age 82, of Duluth, died Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center. A lifelong Duluth resident, he was born June 27, 1931 to Edward and Florence “Dolly” (Erspamer) Shepard. Dan was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He married Donna Mae Oelrich on November 17, 1962. Dan was the owner/operator of Dan’s Skyline Barbershop on 9th St. & 8th. Ave. E. He was a member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, the All American Club, the barbers union, VFW Post 137, and the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 447. He was a generous, caring man, and always giving of himself. He had a gift of hospitality. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Edward. Dan is survived by his wife Donna; his children: Danise (Philip) Serre of Chisago City, Minn, Diane (Scott) Broberg of White Bear Lake, Minn, Edward (Deborah) of Coon Rapids, Minn, and Daniel (Lisa) of Duluth; his nine grandchildren: Taylore, Brock, Jordyn, Aubrey, Brandon, Cara, Sophia, Kennedy and Jack; his sisters: Patricia Dow of Bemidji, Mary (Charles) Lemon and Kathleen Haney, both of Duluth; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday, April 13th. from 3 – 5 pm at Dougherty Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, April 14th. at 10:30 AM at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard. Memorials directed to the Special Olympics would be appreciated.
