David W. Erholtz, 82, of Duluth passed away on Saturday February Seventh 2015. He was born in Grand Rapids, MN to John and Marie Erholtz on November 16, 1932. After graduating from Grand Rapids high school, Dave went on to further his education at UMD where he graduated with a degree in education and later received his master's degree. While at UMD Dave played football, where he was the team captain. He also played baseball and was drafted as a pitcher by the Chicago Cubs. After graduating from UMD Dave went on to teach in the towns of Grand Marais MN and Proctor MN where he taught health, physical education, driver's education, and geography. While teaching in those two towns Dave coached baseball, football, basketball, curling, downhill skiing and track. After his retirement from teaching in 1993, Dave was hired to be the assistant baseball coach at UWS until 1999. Dave was an avid outdoorsman who was at his happiest on the water or in the woods.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Sister Doris Smith, brother Arvid, and step-mother Genevieve.
Dave is survived by his wife of forty-one years Kathleen along with his children Michael (Stacy), Kelly (Dennis McGuire), Duff, Daniel (Kimberly), and Anthony (Susan), grandchildren Cecilia, Bryce, Claire, Emma, Eleanor, Kaleigh, Oliver, Dawson, Finn, Grace, Beck, Bo, and Matthew. Dave is also survived by his siblings Alice Plath, Jack (Dorothy), Jane (Ronald Forneris), Mary (Les Whitesel), Judy (David Childs), and Terry (Claudette), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday February 12, 2015 from 12:00-1:00 pm at Kenwood Lutheran Church, 2720 Myers Avenue, Duluth 55811 with service and luncheon to follow. Dave's family invites all friends, colleagues, and former students to this celebration of his life.
