David Katoski

March 23, 1959 — February 11, 2013

David Frank Katoski, 53, of Duluth Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly on Monday February 11, 2013.
Dave was born in Duluth on March 23, 1959 to Carl and Irene Katoski.
Dave attended Cathedral High School where he was captain of the football, baseball and basketball teams and crowned King his senior year. Dave went on to play for the UMD football team from 1977-1981, where in 1980 the team achieved their first undefeated record in school history. It was at that time Dave met the love of his life Patti. After a seven year courtship and a VCR box proposal the two married on August 17, 1985.
Dave's true pride and joy were his kids. His daughter Katie was born in 1986, followed by his son Kelly in 1989. Sean joined the family in 2000. Dave lived for his kids, and brought both Katie and Kelly into the family business at Last Chance Liquor. The three spent every day together laughing, smiling and occasionally getting some work done.
Dave's joy other than his friends and family included coaching countless football, basketball, softball and soccer teams, he was never afraid to place a bet on his boys. When he wasn't helping his kids work on their home improvement projects, you could find him cooking for anyone he thought might be hungry or taking a ride on his Harley. Dave was a grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous.
He is preceded in death by his father Carl; brother Dick; father-in-law, Chet Welhaven; and brother-in-law, Bob Young.
Dave is survived by his wife, Patti; daughter Katie (Andrew) Hagglund, sons Kelly Katoski and Sean Mayberry (Urie Phillips); grand-daughters, Harmoni and Layla Mayberry; mother Irene; sisters, Sue (Jim) Kozarek, Diane (Dan) Palmstein, and Nancy Katoski; mother-in-law Betty Welhaven; brother and sister-in-law, Allen (Jennifer) Young, Penny (Dane) Ford; nine nieces and nephews and so many loving friends, players and program confidants.
