Delores Balcer

Delores Mary Balcer, a life-long resident of Duluth, MN passed away peacefully on Friday, July 29, 2016 in St. Luke’s Hospital at the age of 91.  She was born on November 15, 1924, to Alderic and Hazel Cote of Duluth, MN.  Delores graduated from Central High School in Duluth.  She was a bookkeeper and cashier at Bueler’s meat market and Gershgol’s and Red Owl grocery stores.  Delores was a member of the Modern Woodmen Club and Retail Clerks Union.  She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus women’s auxiliary.  Delores loved traveling, meeting people and doing genealogical research.  She also enjoyed helping others.  She co-managed Saint Michael’s “Used-a-Bit” store for many years and was an active volunteer at the gift shop at the Chris Jensen Nursing Home.  She enjoyed lazy days at her cabin, gardening, reading, attending to her grandchildren and playing Yahtzee.  Delores was a very caring, loving and intelligent woman with a wonderful sense of humor and wit, and the smile and patience of an angel.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 63 years, Edward.

Delores is survived by her children Edward, Mary, Greg (Heather Odell) Balcer, and Marge (Erich) Schroeder; grandchildren Tiah and Natasha Balcer and Karl Schroeder; sisters Muriel (Walter) Jorgensen and Laura Durovec; and several nieces and nephews on both the Cote and Balcer sides of her family.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 3rd, 2016, from 10AM until the start of the 11AM “Mass of Christian Burial” at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 4901 E. Superior St., Duluth, MN 55804.  Burial will follow at the “Oneota Cemetery”, 6403 Highland Street, Duluth, MN 55807.  Arrangements are made by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. 2nd St., Duluth, MN 55805, (218) 727-3555.
