Dennis Davern

Dennis Joseph Davern 77 of Duluth, passed away Monday, December 29, 2014 at Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center.
Denny was born on July 5, 1937 in Duluth to Richard B. and Helen (Berini) Davern. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1955. Denny held numerous jobs (sometimes 3 at once), his favorite being working on the great lakes ship D.M. Clemson. He worked many years as a mechanic at Northland Phillips 66 station; delivered Pepsi Cola; and tended bar at the Gopher. He also spent 37 years at Northern City National Bank (US Bank) where he worked in installment loans, bookkeeping, as the manager of the drive-in, and finally as the bank's Property Manager until his retirement in 1997.
Denny loved reading, doing crossword puzzles (in Pen!), driving his truck, listening to KQDS, Friday night family dinners at the restaurant of his choice, vintage car shows, Dodge and Ford pick-ups, Crown Vics and Lincolns, coal fired lakers, and breakfast at The Original Coney Island and 9 o'clock coffee with his friends. His most favorite thing to do was spend time with family. He had a quirky, dry sense of humor; was a great story teller and often reminisced about "old" Duluth.
Denny will be sorely missed by his family and friends, all of whom are relieved that the chronic pain he never complained about is finally gone.
Dennis J. Davern was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Virginia Winzenburg; and brother, Donald.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Thorsvik; children: Jim, Rick, Lynda (Murray) George, Bill, Tapper (Steve) Pentz, and Brandon (Laura) Thorsvik; 12 grandchildren: Heather, Andy, Anna, Alex, Joey, Angela, Tommy, Kasie, Marisa, Jacob, Cole, and Landon; 1 great-grandchild, Levi; brother, Tim (Char); sisters, Kathy and Linda (Mark) Johnson; brother-in-law, Jim (Karen) Nichols; and numerous other family and friends.
