Dennis J. Hackett, 78, of Duluth passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 29, 2025, at Keystone Bluffs-Assisted Living. He was born on October 6, 1946, in Duluth MN to Rosemary and Archie Hackett. He was a graduate of St. James Catholic School and Denfeld High School class of 1965. He is an Eagle Scout and received the St. George Award for scout leadership. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the Presidential Flag Ship, USS Northampton CC1. His previous work included Duluth Avionics, U.S. Steel, Diamond Tool and Horseshoe Co, Walco Transport, Hegstrom Funeral Home. He was an active member of St. James Catholic Church and served on its Pastoral Council and chairperson of the Connections building fund. He had previously helped as a volunteer at St. James Church as the editor of the weekly bulletin.
He is a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and was active in the Diocese of Duluth for his work as a senior server to the bishop. He is a life member of the American Legion Post 71. He organizes the annual retirement parties for both shop and office employees of Diamond Tool and Horseshoe Co. He was known for his interest in photography and videography and computer graphics.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Patricia, and Janet, Wahkon, MN, a sister-in-law Barb, and a special friend Marian Rotondi.
Survivors include brother Jerry Hackett, Minnetonka sisters Diane (Rick) Peterson, Minneapolis, MN Several cousins, nieces and nephews. Special Friend Mary Ann Rotondi.
Visitation will be held on Sunday February 9, 2025, from 2-4PM with a 3:30PM Rosary Recitation in Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. 2nd St. Duluth, MN 55805, visitation continues Monday February 10th, 2025, from 10AM until the 11AM Mass of Christian Burial in St, James Catholic Church. Burial will be in Oneota Cemetery. Military Honors will be Accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Dennis J. Hackett Scholarship Fund at St. James School.
