Deslove “Dede” Zakula, 92, of Duluth, passed away on Thursday August 18, 2016 at Edgewood Vista. He was born in Duluth on October 7, 1923 to George and Dorothy (Glumac) Zakula, into one of the largest families on Raleigh St. with 9 siblings. Deslove was a WWII and Korean Navy Veteran. He married Mary Galovich on August 6, 1950 and celebrated 65 years of marriage. Deslove played football at UMD, and received his Master’s Degree from UWS. He worked at Stowe Elementary and Morgan Park High School retiring in 1983 after 36 years of service. Deslove was the last surviving founding member of Mala Gospojina Serbian Orthodox Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. Deslove loved golfing, spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was greatly humbled and honored to be selected by the honor guard to be selected to be on the Honor Flight in 2012.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Peter, Milo, Tom, Ray and George, sisters Mae, Mary, Donna, and his twin Dessie, his wife Mary, and son Jamie.
He is survived by his son George, daughters Stephanie (Tad) Forsell, and Melissa Rosin, grandchildren Zachary and Melana, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10AM until the 11AM Funeral Service in Dougherty Funeral Home.
