Dolores Alice Broskovetz (Maghan), 82, went home to heaven on Saturday, October 19th, 2024.
She was born June 9, 1942, to Donald “Don” and Catherine “Kay” Maghan. She grew up in Duluth on Lake Avenue & Sixth Street, where to this day her sister Sharon resides with her husband Russ. Dolores graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1960.
She was married to her husband Allan Joseph Broskovetz, in February 1965, they were months away from making plans to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. Together they have 2 daughters Tina Ann Joens and Tricia Kay Johnson. She was blessed with her granddaughter Jordyn Kay Joens (Bartlett). The 4 girls loved shopping together!
Dolores was a loving caring person for all her family and friends. She was a special caregiver to her niece and nephew Tara & Sean Gallagher; she was a 2nd mom to them both. Her faith was strong, and this was evident in the many activities she involved herself in through the St Ben’s Catholic Church. There are countless handmade christening gowns and baptismal robes out in the world due to her talents. There was never a task that she wouldn’t take on to make someone else’s day memorable, whether it was tailoring a dress, making a rice bag, or sharing her coupons, it made her happy to contribute to their joy.
Dolores’ endless patience was evident during her LPN nursing career in psychiatric care from 1962-1980 at St. Mary’s & Miller Dwan Hospitals. Dolores even surprisingly enjoyed some outdoor activities with her parents and siblings. She was even known to go camping, AKA, hunting trips with Allan, the daughters and friends. Dolores would travel near and far to do things with and for her family and she always found a way to enjoy the time that was invested in the trip.
Dolores is preceded in death by her parents Don & Kay Maghan, sister Dorothy Maghan (Gallagher), and baby sister, Cheryl Maghan.
She is blessed to have her siblings Sharon and Michael, along with countless sister & brother in laws from the Broskovetz side to support her and each other in this journey.
Many thanks to the Essentia Med/Surg Team Floor 5 and the Hospice Care Crew “Brandon” for their knowledge during her hospital and home stay. Because of her genuine care for others there are too many to name but a special thanks to Sharon, Russ, and Tara for the love they showed during the final days of her life.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 25th at 10 am, followed by Mass of Christian at 11 am at St. Benedicts Catholic Church (1419 St. Benedict St. Duluth, MN 55811). Interment to follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Gnesen.
