Donald Elias

Donald Anthony Elias, 87, of Duluth died on Tuesday August 8, 2017 at Ecumen Lakeshore Memory Care.  He was born in Duluth on March 26, 1930 to Anthony and Frances Elias.  Don graduated from Denfeld High School and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran during Korea and the Vietnam War.  He married Marie Hood in San Antonio, TX on April 12, 1958.  Don worked for the U.S. Customs Agency retiring in 1986.  He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, MN Police and Peace Officers Association, and the Arabian Horse Association.  Don enjoyed fishing, hunting, his Arabian horses, working in his workshop, and vegetable gardening.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Kathleen “Kate” Borelli, Elizabeth Tokarczyk, and Janet Peterson, grandchildren, Luke and Tyler and Brandon.

He is survived by his wife Marie, Children Kathleen Wicklund, John (Nancy) Elias, Terese (Jeff) Cunico, Douglas (Steph) Elias, Steven Elias, Lisa (Jeff) Chiodi, and David (Kari) Elias,14 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, siblings Elaine Rich, Evone Boril, son-in-law Randy Wicklund, and special friends Rhonda and Noah Mittlefeldt, and many special nieces and nephews

The family wishes to thank the staff at Lakeshore Memory Care and St. Luke’s Hospice, especially Tina, for the kind and compassionate care Don received.

Visitation will be held on Sunday August 13, 2017 from 2PM to 4PM in Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. 2nd Street, Duluth, MN 55805 and will continue Monday August 14, 2017 from 9AM until the 10AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Michael’s Catholic Church.  4901 E. Superior St. Duluth MN 55804.  Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to St. Michaels Pre-School or in memory of Donald Elias Alzheimer's Association, 525 S.
