Donna Mae Stewart (Knudtsen)
"I'm fat and sassy and mean as ever and I'm not going to change" was Donna's response to whoever asked her how she was. Donna was sassy, but she was never mean to anyone. In fact, Donna never met a person she didn't like.
Donna was a true Duluthian. Donna was born in Duluth and moved permanently to Duluth with her family when she was in the Sixth Grade.
In Donna's teenage years she enjoyed being on a competitive synchronized swim team, being a Red Cross Certified Lifeguard and swimming in Lake Superior every day that the weather allowed.
Donna graduated from Duluth Central High School and Duluth College of Business.
Donna married the Love of Her Life, Gerry!!! Donna and Gerry bought their only home in 1955. Donna died in her home on November 15, 2020, and Gerry proceeded her in death in 2006 and also died in their home after 55 years of marriage.
Throughout Donna's life she had a full-time career. Donna was the Head Cashier and Bookkeeper at the National Food Store. Later Donna changed her career focus and began working for ISD 709. Donna served at many schools and made many friends including the students.
Donna's greatest joy was raising her 5 children. This meant a lifetime of volunteerism. First and foremost, she was a woman of Faith. Donna and the family members practiced their faith at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Donna was a member of Lowell Elementary School PTA, Duluth Heights Community Club, Girls Scouts, Cub Scouts, Youth Hockey Association and Youth Baseball Association.
In retirement Donna enjoyed traveling, playing nickel slot machines, playing bingo, swimming, and completing jigsaw puzzles with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Donna will be dearly missed by her children; Kathy Townsend; Karen (Rick) Hunter and families; Kim Seely and family; Scott (Kathy) Stewart and families and Tim Stewart.
