Doris L. Fitzpatrick, 96, of Duluth and longtime resident of Littlefork died Tuesday, Mar 8 at Chris Jensen Health Center. Doris lived on the banks of the Bigfork River in Lindford TWP, Mn. with her parents, Oscar and Annie Lindvall and 10 siblings until she married Joseph and moved to Littlefork. She was the oldest daughter of Oscar and Anne's and soon became the second mom to a growing family. Her life was devoted to being a mom: first to her younger brothers and sisters then to five of her own and then later their children. Even at Chris Jensen she was known as mom to the young staff.
Her high school years were cut short answering the needs of a dying grandmother in Wheaton, Mn. After her children reached school age, she began working at the Littlefork Hospital which later became a nursing home. She was a member of St. Columban Church in Littlefork and The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary in Duluth. She was an exceptional baker winning "first Prize" at State Fair competition and the awe of those lucky enough to taste her bread and rolls any Saturday afternoon when they first came out of the oven.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Annie; her husband Joseph; seven siblings, Stanley, Floyd, Leola, Ray, Vivian, Gladys and Wayne; her daughter, Catherine (Ray) Critchley and three grandsons, Patrick, Dean and Joe .
Doris is survived by her children, Mary Waltenburg, Tom (Robyn) Fitzpatrick, Rita Fitzpatrick and Jo (Roger) Fitzpatrick Carlson; nine grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and her remaining siblings Andy, Betty, and Violet.
