Dorothea Foley, 98, went to be with her heavenly Father on Monday, February 4, 2013.
She died peacefully at Golden Oaks Assisted Living Facility with her daughter, Kit, by her side.
She was born in Saco, Montana on January 20, 1915 to Matthew and Katie Adams. At age 4 upon the death of her mother, she went to live with an aunt and uncle in Waldorf, Minnesota. After completing high school she moved to St. Paul where she worked in the accounting department of Brown and Bigelow. In 1947 she married the love of her life, David Foley - they shared 57 wonderful years of marriage. Dave and Dorothea made their home in St. Paul, Minnesota until 1987 when they moved to Duluth to be near their family.
Dorothea was the heart of her family and her home. A loving mother and gracious lady, she led by example with kindness and compassion for everybody. Her beautiful smile and twinkle in her eye will long be remembered. Together with her husband Dave, she made the world a more beautiful place with their award winning gardens. A member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, her religion and love of God were her comfort and joy.
Dorothea was preceded in death by her parents Matthew and Kathryn Adams; brothers, Ted and Bob Adams; and her husband, David.
She will be remembered in love by her daughter, Kit; son-in-law, Jukka; granddaughter, Katie and her husband, Nathan Shaw; grandson, David Hautamaki; great-grandchildren Ella and Oliver Shaw; nieces and nephews Stacy and Joanie Adams, Kathy and Ben Clark, Tim and Paula Foley, Sue and Bill Peglow, John Foley and Cindy Case, Shannon and Mitch Nelson and Joseph and Teresa Foley; special "adopted" daughter, Donna Trapp; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
The family extends their love and gratitude to Dr. Sproat for his many years of compassionate care; the extraordinary staff at Golden Oaks in Hermantown for surrounding Dorothea and her family with their love and tender care, and St. Luke's hospice for helping us through her final days on earth.
