Dorothy Louise Sumner, 84, a resident of The Villages FL, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2016.
Dorothy was born to Marvin and Barbara Curnow, on December 26, 1931, in Duluth. She graduated from Duluth Cathedral.
Family, knitting, and good food played a large role in Dorothy’s life. As a young woman, she married Clement Sumner and raised three children. Dorothy was well-known for gifting friends and family beautifully crafted slippers and blankets. A well-versed cook, Dorothy’s family fondly remembers her tasty cuisine. Dorothy and her mother even spent a few years preparing savory baked goods for the students at the College of Saint Scholastica.
Dorothy’s family spent summers at their lake home on Elliot Lake. Later, Clement and Dorothy retired there until his death.
Dorothy then shared 13 wonderful years with her partner Bud Potter. Her remaining years were spent in sunny Florida.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Barbara; husband, Clement; son, Thomas; partner, Bud Potter; and brother, Jim Curnow.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Steve (Jean) Sumner and Cathy (Allan) Lajiness; daughter-in-law, Mary Sumner Nerbun; ten grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; numerous, nieces, family, and friends.
Funeral service will be 11a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2016, with visitation an hour prior, in Dougherty Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Animal Allies or World Wellness Education.
