Douglas Leroy Mattson, 86, of Duluth died Friday January 19, 2018 at Chris Jensen Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Chisholm, MN on February 2, 1931 to Jalmer and Edith Mattson. Doug was a U.S. Army Veteran. He received a Masters Degree in Counseling, taught in International Falls, and at Ordean, and was a school counselor at Woodland and Ordean Schools for many years. Doug was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed gardening, camping, canoeing in the BWCA, traveling, golfing and watching Minnesota sports teams, but time spent with family was his greatest joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Paul, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
He is survived by his wife Betty, children Susan (James) Knetsch, Nancy Baxter, and David Mattson, grandchildren Justin (Christina), Jonathan (Megan) and Laura Knetsch, Paul (Heather), Rachel, Daniel, and Matthew Baxter, 2 great-grandchildren Ella and Jack Knetsch, sister Sylvia (Allan) Alberg, and many nieces and nephews.
