Dr. Jon D.D.S.

Jon Redmond Barrett, DDS, 75, of Duluth, died Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Solvay Hospice House. He was born in Hibbing, Minn. January 10, 1938 to Fred C. and Katherine L. (Murray) Barrett. Jon married Joan M. Hackner on August 9, 1985 in Duluth. He practiced dentistry at Hibbing Dental Service for 30 years, and for eight years he worked for the St. Croix Tribal Health Service in Hertel, WI, before retiring in 2003. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church-Duluth Heights, the Duluth Scottish Heritage Association. He volunteered at the Holy Innocence Adoration Chapel at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents, his oldest brother Frederick Murray "Cubbie", his sister Nancy Kay Boyles, and his nephew Michael Mosher Barrett.

Jon is survived by his wife, Joan; his sister-in-law Nondis Barrett of Allyn, WA.; his siblings Robert (Joanne), Pat (Cheryl) of Olympia, WA., Jim (Adele) of Reno, NV., and Peggy (Dave) Miller of Apple Valley, MN; and many nieces and nephews. Jon's wish to donate his body to the University of Minnesota Medical School for the education of future doctors was granted.

Visitation will be held on Saturday October 25, 2014 from 12:30PM until the 1:30PM Memorial Mass in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Duluth Hieghts. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a food shelf of donor's choice, or volunteer at the Holy Innocence Adoration Chapel.
