Edward Leonard

Edward "Ed" Neil Leonard, 75, of E 4th St. died Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at BeeHive Homes of Duluth, with his family by his side. Ed was born January 14, 1940 in Duluth to Dell and Kathryn Leonard. He graduated from Cathedral High School and Marquette University with a degree in Chemistry. Ed retired from the EPA lab in Duluth in 2004. He also served in the Air Force Reserve and retired after 29 years as a Lt. Col with the 148th Bulldogs. He married Kathleen Griffin on December 29, 2007.
Ed was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary; he was very active in the Holy Rosary School; He enjoyed golfing, fast pitch softball, traveling and his dogs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dell and Kathryn; sister, Ann Morse and his first wife, Nancy (Van Kessel) Leonard in 2001.
Ed is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughter, Emily (Nic) Matack; siblings, Jerry (Donna) Leonard, Kathy (Jack) Horner, MaryDell (Mark) Carlson, Patricia Leonard and Jeanne (Steve) LaFrance; Kathy's daughters, Amy (Chris) Jones and Katie (Matt) Hedman; grandchildren, Alex and Lucy Jones and Greta and Nels Hedman and his faithful companion "Bella". Ed was loyal to his family, faith, his country and his friends. He will be greatly missed. His kindness, patience, sense of humor and love were inspirational to all who knew him.
Ed's family would like to thank the staff at BeeHive Homes of Duluth and St. Luke's hospice for their loving care of Ed.
Visitation will be Friday, December 18, 2015, from 5-7pm in the Dougherty Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, December 19, at 12 noon in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, 2801 E 4th St. Duluth.
