Elaine Marie Greenfield

Elaine Marie Greenfield, 87 of Duluth, died peacefully at home on Friday, October 7. She was born in St. Luke’s Hospital on November 11, 1934, to Waino and Aune Skarbakka. She attended school at Nettleton, Homecroft and Duluth Central High School, from which she graduated in 1952. She married James Walter Greenfield on September 15, 1956.

She worked at Oliver Iron Mining, where she met many lifelong friends. In 1974, she began working at UMD, retiring from there 25 years later.

Elaine loved bowling, cross-country skiing and playing cards, remaining in card groups until she died. She enjoyed family time at the Island Lake cabin she and James purchased in 1962, and also their trips to Panama City Beach, Florida, every winter. Most of all, she was proud of her kids and grandkids, and did everything she could for them.

Elaine volunteered in the Miller-Dwan gift shop for many years and worked on numerous Central Class of ’52 reunion committees. She was a member of Kenwood Lutheran Church.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Roy Skarbakka, of Moose Lake, Minnesota. She is survived by daughter Linda (John) Spencer, and grandsons Steven (Sarah Riggs) Spencer and Jacob (Hannah Johnson) Spencer; son Steve (Brenda Randolph) Greenfield; Brenda’s daughters, Katie Randolph and Shannan Puchalla, and their families; sister-in-law Vivian Skarbakka of Hermantown; and nieces and nephew Diane Stroing, Donna Hansen and Glen Skarbakka, and their families.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Friday, October 14, at Kenwood Lutheran Church, 2720 Myers Avenue, Duluth, MN 55811.
